Sonfjället National Park

One of the world’s oldest national parks lies in the heart of Destination Vemdalen. Easily accessible from Nyvallen and Nysätern’s shielings, the park offers beautiful excursions in both summer and winter. It has a great deal of game and offers the opportunity of guided tours and bear safaris. There are maps available at the Tourist Offices, and at Nyvallen there is an information centre.

Hembygdsgård (Hede Local History Museum)

Centrally located, the beautiful local history museum lies in the middle of Hede. Open in summer with exhibitions, a café, traditional flatbread baking and a market on Fridays in July and August. Also special events over the summer and the rest of the year.

Hembygdsgård Vemdalen (Vemdalen Local History Museum)

A beautiful old farm in central Vemdalen. Open in summer with a café, exhibitions, flatbread baking and well-attended craft days. Also entertainment and special events over the rest of the year.

Långå Redoubt

Approx. 20 km west of Hede in the village of Långå stands Långå redoubt. A defensive redoubt, probably built in 1658 during the Norwegian-Swedish war. The redoubt and the star-shaped defensive ramparts are still well preserved. Well worth a visit, not merely for those interested in history.

Shielings

Throughout the area there are a number of well-preserved summer shielings (collections of huts used when pasturing animals) which come alive in summer. Many of them combine animal husbandry with refreshments and the sale of home-made products. Popular destinations for adults and children. Come into the Tourist Office and we will tell you more.
